About Kody Dunford
Kody Dunford is a professional violist and private violin and viola teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area with a decade of teaching experience. He earned a Master's degree in Viola Performance from the Cincinnati College–Conservatory of Music (CCM) and a Bachelor's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and holds teaching positions at music schools in San Mateo.
As graduate assistant to Professor Ayane Kozasa at CCM, he gave weekly lessons to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. He maintains an active performing career and has collaborated with artists including Alexi Kenney, Nobuko Imai, Kristen Lee, Ayane Kozasa, and the Kronos Quartet.
Violin & Viola Lessons
Kody teaches students of all ages and levels, from beginners on a 1/8-size violin to advanced and doctoral candidates. For beginning and intermediate students he is a practitioner of the Suzuki Method. Lessons include:
- Tone production and bow technique
- Ear training and listening skills
- Expressive technique and musical phrasing
- Scales, études, and standard repertoire
- Interpretation and applied music theory
- Audition preparation for youth orchestra and advanced study
- Effective, neuroscience-informed practice strategies
Most students study in weekly 60-minute lessons. Shorter lessons are available for beginner and intermediate students.
